How it all began…

Idaho Greens & Lawns was launched out of necessity to fill a void in the Southern Idaho artificial turf market. Rob McMurphy “needed” a new putting green in his backyard to replace a children’s play area. Justin Toothman had the dirt work and subcontractor managerial experience to oversee the project. Justin and his wife had recently purchased a new home in Eagle, ID that had an artificial turf dog run. They liked the look of the artificial turf, and they liked the low maintenance, but didn’t appreciate the pet odors. The company that installed it first sold them some extremely expensive magic potion to remove odor. It didn’t work so they suggested for them to look on the internet for some homeopathic remedies that may work, and that was all they had. We received the first bid for Rob’s putting green from that company which claimed to be extremely busy. They didn’t want to include the base “dirt work” because the access to the backyard was too difficult and they just wanted to install the turf. The price was also very expensive, so we searched for a second qualified contractor. The next contractor assured us they were the best, but he was more interested in selling us his turf business so that he could pursue other interests. When we asked for turf samples he gave us so many choices that it was difficult to choose. When I told him we just wanted the best manufactured turf for a putting green he informed me that it didn’t matter because it was like choosing between a Ford and a Chevy. I told him my clients, Rob and Jen, didn’t want a Ford or a Chevy because they wanted a Cadillac. Thankfully, he then advised me that if I truly wanted the best, I should contact Celebrity Greens in Phoenix because they build more high end putting greens than anyone, and they could tell me the turf they install. I made the call and reached the owner, Weston Weber, and the rest is history!

Weston told me that he had a need for a dealer in Boise, and if we were interested, he’d fly a crew in to install Rob’s project and train us. The real kicker was that we had informed both Boise area bidders that we needed to be able to chip to the green and have the green hold the ball. After I explained to Weston what they had quoted us, he informed us that would have never happened with what they were proposing to install, and Rob would have been extremely disappointed with his subpar golf green.
